W.E.B. (Warp Empire Battles) ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our web-based game service.

• Operate the game service — processing turns, tracking scores, and managing game lobbies.
• Send you essential service communications such as email verification links, password reset emails, and game start notifications.
• Display your username or display name to other players within games and the lobby.

• Track reliability metrics (turn submission rates) to maintain a fair gaming environment.

• Other Players: Your username, display name, empire name, reliability rating, and game statistics are visible to other players within the game environment.
• Service Providers: We use third-party email delivery services (e.g., Mailgun) to send transactional emails. These providers receive only the data necessary to deliver emails on our behalf.
• Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal process.
• Safety: We may disclose information when we believe it is necessary to protect the safety of our users or the public.

4. Data Security

We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information:

• Passwords are hashed using bcrypt before storage.
• Sessions use secure, HttpOnly tokens with automatic expiration.
• Rate limiting is applied to authentication endpoints to prevent abuse.
• Database access is restricted and connections are secured.

However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

5. Your Rights and Choices

You have the following rights regarding your information:

• Access: You can view your profile information, game history, and statistics at any time through your account.
• Update: You can update your display name, email address, and notification preferences through the Profile page.
• Email Communications: You can manage your notification preferences (game start alerts, turn reminders) from your Profile settings.
• Account Deletion: To request deletion of your account and associated data, please contact us using the information below.

6. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. Specifically:

• Account Data: Retained until you request account deletion.
• Game Data: Game history and statistics are retained indefinitely to maintain leaderboards and historical records.
• Session Data: Login sessions expire automatically after 30 days of inactivity.
• Email Verification Tokens: Expire after 24 hours.
• Password Reset Tokens: Expire after 1 hour.

7. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use the following cookies and tracking technologies:

• Session Cookies: We use HttpOnly session cookies to maintain your login state. These are essential for the service to function and cannot be disabled.
• Local Storage: We may use browser local storage to preserve UI preferences.
• Device Fingerprinting (FingerprintJS): We generate an anonymous device fingerprint (a short identifier derived from your browser and device characteristics) on registration and login. We use it solely to detect duplicate or fraudulent account creation (e.g. one person creating multiple accounts to circumvent account limits). The fingerprint is not used for advertising, cross-site tracking, or sharing with third parties. The library used is the open-source edition of FingerprintJS, which runs entirely in your browser; only the resulting fingerprint string is sent to our server.
• Google Analytics 4: We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors find and use the Service. GA4 sets first-party cookies (e.g. _ga, _ga_*) that collect aggregated, anonymized data such as page views, approximate location (country/region level), device type, referral source, and session duration. GA4 uses IP anonymization by default and we have not enabled Google Signals or advertising features. Data is processed by Google LLC under Google's own privacy terms (policies.google.com/privacy). You can opt out of GA4 tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or by using your browser's Do Not Track / tracking-prevention settings.

We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site retargeting, or sell data to third-party advertisers.

8. Age Requirement

W.E.B. is intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. By creating an account, you affirm that you are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18. If we become aware that we have collected information from a person under 18, we will take steps to delete that information and terminate the associated account promptly.

9. International Users

If you access W.E.B. from outside the United States, please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States where our servers are located. By using the service, you consent to this transfer.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and increment the version number. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
