Discord Integration
How W.E.B. uses Discord for game communication
1. What Is Discord Integration?
W.E.B. integrates with Discord to enhance player communication during games.
When a game starts, a semi-private text channel can be created on
the official W.E.B. Discord server, giving the players in that game a dedicated
space to negotiate, strategize, and trash-talk in real time.
This is separate from the in-game Comms panel, which delivers
pre-written diplomatic messages on turn boundaries. Discord channels let you write
your own messages freely.
To get started, link your Discord account on your
Profile page. You only need to do this once.
2. How Game Channels Work
- When a game starts, W.E.B. checks how many players have linked their Discord accounts.
- If more than half the players have linked Discord, a private text channel
is automatically created under the ACTIVE GAMES category on the W.E.B. server.
- The bot posts a welcome message with the game name, player list, and a link to play.
- Only players in that game (who linked Discord before it started) can see and post in the channel.
Private Games
When creating a private game, the host can check the
"Create Discord channel" option. This guarantees a channel is
created regardless of how many players have linked Discord.
3. Who Has Access
- Game players who linked their Discord account before the game started.
- W.E.B. server administrators and the W.E.B. bot (for posting game events).
- Other server members cannot see or access game channels.
AI takeover / departure: If your empire is taken over by AI or you leave the game,
you keep access to the channel. You can still chat with the remaining players about the game.
4. Channel Lifecycle
- Created when the game starts (if the threshold is met or the host requested it).
- Active throughout the game — use it for diplomacy, coordination, or banter.
- Final standings are posted to the channel when the game ends.
- Automatically deleted 48 hours after the game ends.
48-hour window: After a game ends, you have 48 hours to discuss the outcome,
congratulate the winner, and share war stories. After that, the channel and all its messages
are permanently deleted. Save anything important before then.
5. Privacy & Data
Game channels are semi-private — they are restricted to game
participants, but they are not end-to-end encrypted private channels. Please be aware:
- W.E.B. server administrators and the bot have technical access to all channels.
- Discord itself retains message data per its own
Privacy Policy.
- W.E.B. does not log, store, monitor, or analyze messages posted in
game channels. We don't read your diplomacy.
- Channels are deleted 48 hours after the game ends. Messages are not
archived or backed up by W.E.B.
Do not share sensitive personal information (real name, address,
financial details, passwords) in game channels. While access is restricted to game
players, these channels are not designed for exchanging private personal data.
6. Discord Notifications (DMs)
Separately from game channels, W.E.B. can send you direct messages
on Discord for game events:
- Turn reminders (deadline approaching)
- New turn results ready
- Game started / game ended
- Diplomatic messages received (in-game Comms)
- Home system conquered
- "Waiting on you" (you're the last player to submit orders)
- AI takeover warning / confirmation
Configure which DMs you receive on your Profile page
under Discord Notifications.
7. Limitations
- Must link before game starts. If you link your Discord account after
a game has already started, you won't get access to that game's channel. You'll have
access in your next game.
- Threshold applies. A channel is only created if more than half the
players have linked Discord (unless the private game host overrides this).
- 48-hour auto-delete. Channels are permanently deleted 48 hours after
the game ends. No exceptions.
- Server rules apply. Standard W.E.B. community guidelines and
Discord's Terms of Service
apply to all game channels.
- W.E.B. is not responsible for content posted by players in Discord
channels. Report abusive behavior via the Send Feedback feature.
8. Frequently Asked Questions
I linked Discord after the game started. Can I get access?
No. Discord channel membership is set when the game starts. Link your account before
joining your next game to ensure access.
Can I invite non-players to the channel?
No. Channel permissions are locked to the game's players. Only the bot and server
administrators have additional access.
What happens to my messages after 48 hours?
They are deleted along with the channel. W.E.B. does not archive or back up channel
content. If you want to save a conversation, copy it before the 48-hour window closes.
Can the game admin read our messages?
W.E.B. server administrators have technical access to all channels on the server, but
we do not actively monitor game channels. The bot only posts automated game event messages.
I don't have Discord. Can I still play?
Absolutely. Discord is entirely optional. You can play the full game using the in-game
Comms panel for diplomacy. Discord is just an extra communication channel for players who
want real-time conversation.
How do I leave the W.E.B. Discord server?
Right-click (or long-press on mobile) the server name in Discord and select
"Leave Server." This does not affect your W.E.B. account or game participation.
